The Full Picture of K-12 Safety and Operational Readiness

Creating secure schools remains a critical priority for district leaders, but the safety challenges schools face continue to expand. From requesting help in an emergency to tracking students during the day to knowing exactly who’s coming through the front door, school staff are trying to close a wide range of gaps that can leave students vulnerable and slow response times when seconds matter most.

Building on our 2025 School Entrance Security Report, we expanded our focus this year to better understand the full picture of safety and operational readiness in K-12 schools. In February 2026, we surveyed more than 500 full-time school staff members across the U.S. to learn what’s changed, what hasn’t, and where the most pressing gaps remain.

The results highlight a concerning reality: while schools recognize the importance of safety, staffing shortages, reliance on analog processes, and a lack of real-time visibility into student movement are creating vulnerabilities that current reactive measures simply can’t address. The disparity between how teachers and administrators perceive safety adds another layer of urgency.

Addressing these gaps requires modern, integrated solutions that enhance safety, automate daily tasks, provide real-time visibility, and give every staff member easy ways to communicate and request help. Download a copy of this report to understand:
